Utah school district apologizes for seizing kids' lunches for unpaid bills
Thu Jan 30, 2014
I worked for one of our larger school districts' nutrition services while I put myself through school-and it is apparent that many on this forum don't realize the challenge of being a "lunch lady." First, the school cook had nothing to do with the decision.
Wife slain after putting ketchup lid on too tightly, prosecutor says
Fri Sep 20, 2013
Renee; I agree that some people experience confusion (young or old) after surgery, but that doesn't appear to be the case as substantiated by the man's own confession. He planned a murder. He got the gun while the wife was asleep. He took the phone off the hook first.

Fast food strikes go super-sized in clash over wages
Thu Aug 29, 2013
Actually, the "native" Americans (of which I proudly DO claim in ancestry) were immigrants, also. Fast food historically has been a high school/college "gas" money type of job. The stats you quote are misleading. The only person I know with a university degree who works in fast food (piz …

5 questions for Michael Tanner -- a policy expert who says we've made poverty too 'comfortable'
Thu May 16, 2013
Charles: I think you're confusing not having sex without benefit of marriage to not having children without marriage. The former is a moral judgment - and the latter an economic one. I'm also incredulous at your attitude that you think if one can't afford birth control - one shouldn't have sex.
Maryland first-grader suspended for pointing fingers at friends, saying 'pow'
Wed Jan 2, 2013
As a public educator, I can unequivocally mock the behavior demonstrated by the adults in this school system in suspending a 1st grader over behavior that children (boys AND girls) have been doing for eons without killing anybody. (Can you believe that when I played with my brother's gun - it even h …
